Our core assets provide services for customers in the Delaware Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, and the DJ Basin in northeastern Colorado, and the Powder River Basin in Northeast Wyoming. Additional assets and investments are located in South Texas, Utah, and Southwest Wyoming.

We’re engaged in the business of gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, recycling, treating and disposing of produced water for our customers. In our capacity as a natural gas processor, we also buy and sell natural gas, NGLs, and condensate on our behalf and our customers under certain gas processing contracts.

Job Summary:

Join Western Midstream as an Environmental Representative for our Denver Julesberg (DJ) Basin Assets, part of the Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security Team. Based in our Longmont, CO office, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring environmental compliance across DJ operations, with opportunities to travel to our other assets in Wyoming and Utah. This is a dynamic position that offers meaningful impact, professional growth, and the chance to work with a dedicated team.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: At least five (5) years of experience in environmental roles.
  • Experience with midstream oil and gas operations, such as gas processing plants, compressor stations, and gathering pipelines, or similar exploration and production environments is highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Colorado state environmental regulations, including ECMC 900 and 1000 series rules, CDPHE reclamation and stormwater regulations, SARA Title III-Tier II, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, SPCC, RCRA, TENORM, and TRI Reporting.
  • Familiarity with environmental requirements for remediation related to crude oil, condensate, produced water, and refined oil products.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with operations, engineering, technical teams, management, and regulatory agencies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSE&S) procedures and regulations applicable to midstream operations.
  • Proficiency with technical and computer tools, especially Microsoft Office and internal incident management systems.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.

Responsibilities:

You will support DJ Basin operations, spending up to 80% of your time at field locations. Work environments include outdoor sites, gas processing facilities, compressor stations, pipeline locations, and remote areas. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage and oversee remediation activities, stormwater inspections, SPCC inspections, reclamation projects, and more—handling contractor selection, cost tracking, environmental sampling, and serving as liaison with federal and state agencies.
  • Work closely with operations staff to ensure compliance with environmental programs—SPCC, Waste, Wildlife, NORM, Stormwater, Remediation, and Reclamation Management in the DJ Basin.
  • Maintain accurate data tracking, recordkeeping, and reporting for all environmental programs.
  • Create and deliver environmental training sessions for internal employees and external contractors.
  • Use internal incident management systems to track environmental incidents, lead root cause investigations, and help asset teams implement corrective actions.
  • Review and implement regulatory changes and participate in advocacy efforts with industry organizations as needed.
  • Work independently, demonstrating strong organizational and computer skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in science, engineering, or a related field.

Licenses:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license without any restrictions that would prevent operating a company vehicle.

Travel Requirements:

  • Regular travel is required, including travel to Western Midstream Rockies assets (CO, WY, UT) and other company assets (TX, NM) for audits and operational support.

Work Schedule:

  • Hybrid work schedule: Monday–Thursday (9-hour days) and Friday (4-hour day), with occasional flexibility for business needs.
