Western Midstream is a master limited partnership formed to own, develop, acquire, and operate midstream assets. Our core assets provide services for customers in the Delaware Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, and the DJ Basin in northeastern Colorado. Additional assets and investments are located in South Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. 

Job Summary:

Western Midstream is seeking an Optimization Engineer for its Process Optimization Engineering Team. The primary responsibilities include improving gathering system performance, facilitating regulatory compliance, and improving process safety by monitoring daily operations, and implementing data-driven optimization solutions.

 

*This position will be based in Longmont, CO.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years engineering experience supporting midstream oil and gas gathering pipelines and facilities
  • Experience in pipeline design, onshore gathering operations, and maintenance with common gas gathering equipment (compressors, pumps, dehydration, and treating equipment)
  • Proficiency in steady-state and transient hydraulic modeling (Synergi, SPS, Pipesim, OLGA, or equivalent)
  • Experience with gas compression simulation software (Ariel Performance, Frick Coolware, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AVEVA PI data historian, Seeq, Cygnet, Ignition, or equivalent SCADA system
  • Understanding of facility automation and operation of equipment

 

Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and execute capital projects to improve safety, environmental compliance, and profitability. This will include process simulation, cost estimation and economic calculations.
  • Develop and maintain system hydraulic models for use by Operations, Commercial, and Engineering teams
  • Translate volume forecasts for customer service needs and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor daily operation of the gathering system to ensure safe, compliant, and profitable operation
  • Collaborate with Operations personnel to optimize system operations within design limitations, contract requirements, and energy costs.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses and Management of Change reviews
  • Provide technical recommendations to maximize system throughput and reduce operational expenses

 

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree required. Chemical, mechanical, or petroleum engineering preferred; other engineering disciplines may be considered with appropriate experience.

*Grade and salary will be commensurate with relevant education and experience.

 

Certification/Licenses:

  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions that would prohibit driving a company vehicle.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% of working days to be spent at gathering system facilities in CO and WY.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Hybrid schedule: Office work on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; remote work on Wednesday and Friday. Monday–Thursday: 9 hours/day; Friday: 4 hours.

 

*The pay range for this position in Colorado annually is $115,000 - $194,000; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
