Our core assets provide services for customers in the Delaware Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, and the DJ Basin in northeastern Colorado, and the Powder River Basin in Northeast Wyoming. Additional assets and investments are located in South Texas, Utah, and Southwest Wyoming.

We’re engaged in the business of gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, recycling, treating and disposing of produced water for our customers. In our capacity as a natural gas processor, we also buy and sell natural gas, NGLs, and condensate on our behalf and our customers under certain gas processing contracts.

Job Summary:

Western Midstream is seeking a motivated Commercial Operations Intern to support the scheduling and asset optimization activities across our operated midstream systems. This internship provides hands-on exposure to natural gas, NGL, and crude scheduling, as well as real-world insight into how commercial and operational decisions drive midstream performance.

This role is ideal for students who are analytical, detail‑oriented, and interested in learning how midstream assets move, measure, and balance hydrocarbons across the value chain.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Energy Commerce, Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn complex midstream concepts
  • Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Self-motivated, curious, and willing to take on new challenges

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in midstream operations, gas scheduling, or energy markets
  • Prior internship or coursework in energy, supply chain, analytics, or accounting                                                                                    

Responsibilities:

*Under supervision and with training provided, the intern will assist the Commercial Operations team with tasks such as:

  • Supporting daily nominations and scheduling activities across Western Midstream systems
  • Helping track and reconcile producer volumes, nominations, and imbalances
  • Assisting with monitoring system balances, plant shrink, fuel usage, and other operational metrics
  • Learning to review SCADA data to understand system performance
  • Coordinating with field operations to understand physical flow constraints and system dynamics
  • Assisting with allocation monitoring on downstream pipelines
  • Supporting the preparation of weekly and monthly reports for accounting, marketing, and producers
  • Helping maintain accurate records of operational events and documentation
  • Learning to use internal systems such as EMK3
  • Participating in cross-training within Commercial Operations
  • Assisting with analysis related to ethane rejection/recovery and processing economics
  • Supporting the team during special projects such as new well connections, system changes, or operational events

*The intern may also have opportunities to attend internal meetings with operations, accounting, marketing, and commercial development to gain broader business understanding.

Travel Requirements:

  • The percentage of travel required for this position is 0-5%.

Work Schedule: 

  • This position follows a hybrid schedule working in-office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and working remote Wednesday and Friday. Monday-Thursday are 9 hours and Fridays are 4 hours
