Western Midstream (WES) is a master limited partnership formed to own, develop, acquire, and operate midstream assets. We are engaged in gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing, and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs), and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, and disposing of produced water for our customers.

WES internships are designed to provide students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in the oil and gas industry. Interns work alongside experienced professionals, gain valuable technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful, real-world projects that support business objectives. You’ll be working alongside experienced professionals and learning from the best in the field. Each intern is supported by a dedicated mentor who provide guidance and structured assignments throughout the internship to ensure a meaningful and well-rounded experience. Interns participate in a formal mid-term review to discuss progress and development. At the conclusion of the internship, interns deliver a presentation summarizing their project work, followed by a performance discussion with their mentor.

Position Summary:

The Corrosion Prevention Intern will support the Corrosion Prevention Program across cathodic protection, internal corrosion monitoring, chemical treatment, regulatory compliance, and integrity risk management. The internship will combine field exposure, engineering analysis, and workflow modernization to help consolidate, visualize, and use corrosion-related information more effectively for decision-making and risk prioritization.

• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and independently on assigned deliverables.
• Ability to organize technical information, make objective observations, and communicate findings clearly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI, SharePoint, Power Automate, AI tools, data visualization, or programming is a plus.
• Basic exposure to corrosion, materials, electrochemistry, mechanical systems, chemical processes, pipeline systems, or data analytics is preferred but not required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

What you’ll be doing:

• Learn how corrosion prevention activities support the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of midstream assets.
• Review existing data sources and workflows for cathodic protection, internal corrosion monitoring, chemical treatment, compliance, and integrity risk.
• Work with engineers, specialists, operations personnel, and field teams to document current processes, data handoffs, and improvement opportunities.
• Leverage AI, automation, and reporting tools to improve visibility of corrosion prevention activities and risk indicators while reducing manual effort.
• Create clear process documentation, data definitions, user guidance, and recommendations that support future adoption and maintenance.
• Participate in field visits to West Texas and/or other company’s operation regions to observe corrosion prevention equipment and practices, such as rectifiers, test stations, corrosion monitoring locations, and chemical treatment systems.
• Present project results, lessons learned, and recommended next steps to Corrosion Prevention and Asset Integrity leadership at the end of the internship.

Position requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at the time of the internship. Preferred disciplines include Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials or Metallurgical Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2
• Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or have valid work authorization.
• Ability and willingness to travel to field locations and comply with applicable safety and site requirements.

Relocation Expense Reimbursement:

This position is not eligible for relocation expense reimbursement.

Travel:

Travel will be required up to 10%.

Work Schedule:

This position follows a hybrid schedule: in-office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and remote Wednesday and Friday.  Monday-Thursday are 9 hours, and Fridays are 4 hours.
