Western Midstream is a master limited partnership formed to own, develop, acquire, and operate midstream assets. We are engaged in the business of gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing, and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs), and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, and disposing of produced water for our customers.

We operate or own equity interests in assets in the Rocky Mountains, North-central Pennsylvania, and Texas, including approximately 16,000 miles of petroleum and natural gas pipelines and over 100 gathering, treating, and processing facilities.

Job Summary

This position is located at Western Midstream’s Corporate Headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas as a member of the Asset Integrity – Corrosion Prevention Team. This Engineering position provides direction and oversight to the Company Internal Corrosion Prevention Program, maximizing system and equipment availability by managing corrosion, chemicals and flow assurance programs that mitigate slugging, hydrate management and formation, scale formation, wax buildup, corrosion, erosion, asphaltene deposition and gel formation.

 

This position provides daily supervision of chemical injection programs and vendors, and provides technical support for the design, installation, maintenance, assessing, investigating, mitigating, and monitoring internal corrosion control systems (chemical management).  This position also includes technical review and support of corrosion related issues and tasks including the development of maturation of Company policies and procedures.

 

 Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of corrosion prevention experience with facilities and pipelines is required 
  • Competent knowledge in all facets of corrosion prevention with in-depth understanding of including materials selection and design, chemicals, pigging, protective coatings, cathodic protection, corrosion monitoring and prevention, corrosion mechanisms, mitigation techniques, and project support is preferred
  • Working knowledge of the various Federal and State pipeline and facility regulations including corrosion control, integrity management, and industry standards is preferred
  • A high degree of personal organization and self-management
  • Strong initiative to work efficiently with accurate results
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment with strong analytical and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with a wide variety of people, both internal and external to Western Midstream including field staff, service contractors, equipment vendors, and cross-discipline professionals for superior results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Outlook), Power BI, and Detechtion (WES Internal Corrosion & Chemical Database) is preferred

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide the overall direction to the Company’s Internal Corrosion Prevention and Chemical Programs, ensuring consistent application of Company procedures.
  • Provide daily supervision of chemical injection programs and vendors, and provides technical support for the design, installation, maintenance, assessing, investigating, mitigating and monitoring internal corrosion control systems (chemical management).
  • Provide a high level of corrosion prevention technical expertise and problem-solving to the field-based Operational Teams for complex internal corrosion control, including site reviews, oil, gas, and water quality, analysis of corrosion coupons, liquid/solid sample analysis results interpretation, maintenance pigging, and other general internal corrosion monitoring and treatment systems.
  • Provide technical support for the Company’s internal corrosion prevention and chemical database, Detechtion software. Perform database audits, maintenance, enhancements, and updates as necessary.
  • Develop and update site-specific corrosion control plans.
  • Support the development of maturation of Company engineering standards, policies and procedures related to Corrosion Prevention and Chemical Programs.
  • Make informed decisions involving internal corrosion mitigation requirements, such as corrosion treatment chemical selection, internal coatings, maintenance pigging, cathodic protection, corrosion-resistant materials selection, and internal corrosion monitoring technologies such as coupons, probes, liquid and solid sampling, and develop recommendations on internal corrosion mitigation based on results from inline inspection.
  • Provide technical support to Operational Teams, Engineering and field-based Corrosion Prevention personnel and serve as a subject matter expert as necessary.
  • Provide input on new construction projects and incorporate newly operated assets into the Internal Corrosion Prevention Programs.
  • Perform root cause analysis working in conjunction with various Company and third-party personnel.
  • Support DOT, state and corporate pre-audits and audits and interface with regulatory agencies.
  • Interface with Integrity Engineers to incorporate corrosion prevention data into the Integrity Management Programs and risk software.
  • Review integrity testing results for discoveries and comparisons with the Corrosion Prevention Program.
  • Provide training opportunities, mentoring and guidance to Company personnel on processes, standards, procedures, and survey techniques.

 

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Chemical Engineering degree is preferred

 

Certifications / Licenses

  • Professional Engineering registration is preferred
  • AMPP Internal Corrosion Technologist or Specialist certification is preferred

This position may be eligible for relocation

 

Travel Requirements

The percentage of travel required for this position is 10 – 30%

 

Work Schedule

This position will work 9 hours Monday – Thursday and 4 hours on Friday.  The position will rotate weekly between working from home and the office.
