Our core assets provide services for customers in the Delaware Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, and the DJ Basin in northeastern Colorado, and the Powder River Basin in Northeast Wyoming. Additional assets and investments are located in South Texas, Utah, and Southwest Wyoming.

We’re engaged in the business of gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and transporting natural gas; gathering, stabilizing and transporting condensate, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and crude oil; and gathering, transporting, recycling, treating and disposing of produced water for our customers. In our capacity as a natural gas processor, we also buy and sell natural gas, NGLs, and condensate on our behalf and our customers under certain gas processing contracts.

At Western Midstream, the Occupational Safety & Health Director is responsible for overseeing the regional field safety teams and the corporate occupational safety and health function, including safety, health, and crisis & emergency management. The incumbent should be able to demonstrate effective servant leadership and creation of highly effective teams. This should include effectively connecting the OS&H team’s mission and goals to the broader corporation’s vision and mission; defining and implementing effective processes for organizational work and performance management; and selecting, coaching, and mentoring staff to create a highly successful organization. This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership, and technical expertise to ensure that effective processes are put in place to continually improve WES’s ability to secure the safety and health of our people and facilities and that we effectively execute operations in ways that ensure compliance with all regulations where we operate.

 

This role will office out of The Woodlands, TX location and report to the Vice President, Health, Safety, Environment and Security.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and drives the implementation of the Occupational Safety & Health Program in coordination with Planning & Execution, Operations and HSE&S leadership.
  • Fosters a culture which drives best-in-class safety performance; works to instill and embed safety culture across the organization
  • Ensure the OS&H team demonstrates a strong willingness to be a partner to the other functions within the organization, sharing the same intensity and accountability for achieving organizational objectives while ensuring safety is front and center in all actions taken by the organization.
  • Owns and builds an effective Occupational Safety & Health management system that aligns with the organization’s objectives and drives compliance and performance
  • Partners with Planning & Execution and Operations teams to communicate and implement safety strategies.
  • Provides leadership of the Crisis and Emergency Management function, securing the organization’s ability to respond to unplanned events
  • Develops the OS&H team into a collaborative and innovative team focused on continuous improvement and achieving excellence.
  • Develops and communicates a clear strategy, road map forward and dashboards that identify key areas of continuous improvement and progress against plans.
  • Supports internal auditing processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal requirements, driving continuous improvement through audit action closure.
  • Leverages best practices to ensure consistent application of requirements, while also bringing new practices and technology into the organization to elevate performance.
  • Ensures the Occupational Safety & Health organization has the talent and leadership necessary to implement and sustain a best-in-class function and succession planning.

 Qualifications:  

  • 10 years’ experience in leading teams, with a track record of HSE performance improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; safety, environmental science, emergency management, or related field preferred
  • Site, multi-site, regional and corporate leadership experience
  • Oil & gas or related industry experience preferred
  • Experience in industrial facilities directly supporting operations required
  • Experience managing, writing, implementing and auditing corporate-level standards and policies
  • Outstanding influential leadership and communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health and Emergency Management
  • Can prepare executive level reports and presentations on technical issues & decisions
  • Ability to prioritize, build relationships and develop top talent
  • Exceptional ability to understand and motivate people, leveraging influence and indirect authority to achieve desired outcomes

  • Strong knowledge of a wide range of HSE regulations and standards, including occupational health & safety and emergency management

 

Certification/Licenses:

Certified Safety Professional or equivalent preferred

 

Travel Requirements:
The percentage of travel required for this position is 25-30%.
