Job Summary:
Western Midstream seeks an Advising-level Petrophysicist to join the Subsurface Engineering team located in The Woodlands, TX or Longmont, CO office. This full-time position is part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the development and management of WES’ Saltwater Disposal (SWD) system in the Permian Basin of Texas and New Mexico. The position will focus on extending and improving the existing petrophysical models and generating new models as business needs dictate.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant experience working as a full-time Petrophysicist
- Expert experience with IP petrophysical software
- Self-motivated and proactive problem solver who is proficient at all aspects of petrophysical analysis including generation of petrophysical models and evaluation of rock strength and geomechanics
- Expert working knowledge of Permian Basin geology, geophysics and petrophysics; extensive Delaware Basin experience is required
- Expertise in monitoring and understanding oil, gas or SWD drilling and logging operations
- Experience designing tailored petrophysical data acquisition programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) proficiency
- Must have strong customer focus and enjoy working in a fast-moving team environment focused on evaluating petrophysical data, executing SWD’s and logical growth
Responsibilities:
- Analysis of WES logs and generation of finalized petrophysical property log curves for wells across the Permian Basin, and others as required
- Generate robust multi-mineral, core-integrated petrophysical models for remainder of the Permian Basin for possible acquisitions
- Generate geomechanical rock properties and fracture gradient information as required by state or federal regulatory bodies for new well applications
- Real-time remote oversite and QC of all WES new well logging
- Oversee rock mechanics data acquisition and interpretation
- Represent WES in any internal petrophysical discussions as well as with customers, partners and regulatory personnel
- Act as WES’s expert witness for petrophysics in administrative hearings and civil court
Education Requirements:
- Master’s degree in earth science
Travel Requirements:
- Travel will be infrequent; likely less than 3%
Work Schedule:
- This position follows a hybrid schedule working in office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and working remote Wednesday and Friday. Monday-Thursday are 9 hours and Fridays are 4 hours
- Requires after-hours remote oversight of logging operations, as needed during active drilling. Typically less than 20 wells each year
